Reason 4 Production Program
Propellerhead’s Reason 4 is the ideal start if you want to develop the skills to produce music. This program takes you through Reason 4 from an introductory level and moves toward more advanced techniques.
What is covered in the program?
The first time you open up Reason it may seem complicated, but Retro Music is here to show you around the studio and the things you need to make great beats:
- Introduction to music production
- What is music production?
- Different genres to produce for
- Introduction to Reason’s user interface
- Learning how to use the redrum to program drum beats
- Using the effects and dynamics to enhance and fatten sounds
- Using synthesizers such as Thor, Sub Tractor and Maelstrom to create sounds
- Using the NNXT for sampled sounds, and external sounds
- Using the sequencer to arrange a song
- Using the mixer and mastering suite
- Connecting and using a MIDI keyboard,
- Using the ReGroove mixer
- Automation
How lessons work
- 10 lessons, 1 hour each
- 5 hours of free practice sessions in studio
Cost: R4000 (R400/lesson)
This program helps students understand how to use Reason 4 to its maximum capabilities. Students can then start creating tracks and build their skills up to be able to incorporate other production programs.
Add-ons for the Reason 4 Production Program
- Extra Lessons
Every student learns at a different pace, and some may require extra lessons in order to fully understand the programs they are being taught. Retro Music offers our students extra lessons to ensure they understand everything about music production:
5 extra lessons, one hour each: R1500
- Practice Sessions
Practicing new techniques is essential to learning, but many people don’t have their own production studio at home. Each student has 5 hours of practice time to use outside of lessons and so we offer additional studio practice sessions at an exclusive rate for our students for up to 2 weeks after the completion of the program.
5 hour studio sessions: R1000
10 hour studio sessions: R1500

We also offer the services of our studio engineer should you want additional assistance in producing tracks other than what you are working on in the Complete Program.
