Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I make a career out of DJing?
YES! It’s all up to you how big you want to make it in the music industry. We show our students how to turn their passion and talents into a valuable source of income.
2. Do I need any experience?
No experience is necessary to take up a Basic DJ Program. For the other programs, an understanding of the basics of DJing is needed and our basic program is the ideal choice.
3. Do I need to take the basic DJ Program at Retro Music to join the other programs?
If you have no experience, this program is imperative for the learning process. If you have taken a beginner course somewhere else or know the basics of mixing, our Basic DJ program may help you touch up your skills before moving onto more complicated aspects of DJing.
4. When can I join?
Applicants may enroll right now since classes are one-on-one. Booking times are flexible and can be easily arranged with Retro Music staff.
Classes may be scheduled during our trading hours between 10am and 6pm or after hours between 5pm and 7pm. Classes can also be scheduled for Saturdays between 10am and 2pm.
5. How does payment work?
You can pay with cash or cheque, or do an online EFT payment. Students must pay in full before the commencement of any training can take place.
6. What do I need to start?
All we require from our students is passion and determination, your enrollment fees and classes can start. It is advisable to bring a pen and notepad so that notes can be taken.
7. Do I need my own equipment to start?
It is recommended that the student has access to equipment to practice as much as possible. However, students may make use of the Retro Music facilities until they are ready to purchase their own equipment.
Students should enquire about custom packages from Retro Music that incorporates all your equipment needs.
8. How can I afford my own equipment?
Rest assured, Retro Music has the right solution for you and your budget! Our staff and instructors will guide you in making the right decisions- we start you off with a small simple system which you can add onto and grow over time. Of course our students get discounts on equipment they buy from the Retro Music Store.
If buying equipment is really not an option for you, Retro Music’s facilities are available to book for practice sessions at a reduced student rate.
9. Training for out of town students
At this stage, Retro Music does not have branches in other areas of South Africa but if students can arrange accommodation in Gauteng for the duration of their program, we welcome them as students!
We arrange a special class schedule for these students to fit around transport and accommodation requirements.
